pagtataka BILANG TI:N PACH E:K (garhwali 351) *bout graduation

sometime ago, someone asked me if i was overwhelmed/worried/scared that I was going to graduate.. i knew how i felt, and i knew that i didn't feel any of that... and i guess it is weird that i didn't really feel bad that I was graduating.. it actually bothered me a little, which is why i thought about it.. took me a while but I think i found out why... most people are afraid or saddened by graduation because they feel that they're leaving something behind.. they think about what they will never be able to see, the people they won't be able to hang out with, and the stuff that they won't be able to do... i didn't feel any of that... i don't feel like i'm leaving anything behind because college for me wasn't just our classrooms, it was the 8th out of 5 floors of Sunrise and MyPlace.. college life wasn't just PE classes in Blue Eagle Gym or the cov courts, it was the UAAP games in the Araneta Coliseum... it wasn't just finance class, but the Philippine Stock Exchange and the NYSE.. not just theology or philosophy class, but trials in the Makati Regional Trial Court... it wasn't just hanging out at SOM mall or strolling down SEC walk.. it was dining right across the river Seine from Notre Dame in Paris, walking around the Coliseum in Rome, and snowboarding down the mountains of Austria... my point is that college is so much more than just the buildings and classes of Ateneo.. of course those were important, but any administrator, professor, or student will tell you that those should never define and dictate that time of your life... college is more than just sitting in a classroom, listening to lectures and taking down notes.. it's about experiencing the world for ourselves, tasting reality while still having the comforts and naivety of youth... those experiences will never go away and we can always go through them even after we graduate... but i think what needs to be addressed the most is a different fear: people... our greatest fear in graduating is losing touch with the people we know... I see it differently.. for me, it's the people that we meet in college that should not make us worry about graduating... all of us went into college practically without knowing anybody, but were all coming out of it with people we will never forget.. even if we're graduating, these people won't disappear... of course, it's inevitable that you will drift away from some of your college friends, but there's always a select few that you know you can just call any time to drink, eat somewhere, watch a movie, hang out, or just talk, and, in the end, those friends, the ones you'll be with even after college, are really the ones who helped define that time of your life... they're the reason why "college" will never go away... it is because of these people that graduating isn't about leaving something behind.. it's really about ending up with what matters most

pagtataka BILANG TI:N PA:CH DAS (kumauni 350) *bout flirting

Friday night, i was studying for my midterm test the next day.. i was downstairs, not in my room... there was a group of korean girls a few tables away from me... from my peripheral, i noticed a guy, Filipino, approach them by himself... here are excerpts of what happened next....

THE INTRO
Guy: (*in a grossly exaggerated American accent*) Hey there....
         are you girls....... chinese?..... korean?.....
Korean girls: uhhhm.. we.... (*talks among themselves)
Guy: hahaha (dickhead laugh).. i think i'm going to have to sit down for this one.....

FLIRTING 1
Guy: are you here to study english?
Korean girls: uhm.. yes...
Guy: ahhh.. i see... you know.... i study in ateneo......

FLIRTING 2
Guy: do you girls drink?... you know "alcohol"?.... you girls like "alcohol"? (*smile)

FLIRTING 3
Guy: you're cute (*smile)....... you (pointing to another girl) are adorable....
....you know... "adorable"?..... it's like a baby (*eyebrow)

 Nostalgia

my sister's back from Austria!... shet.. just listening to all her stories.. really nostalgic... makes me miss a lot of things about that place

in other news.... were nearly there... just a few more weeks and were graduating... and there's a job fair next week... and SSS application... i feel old... SSS is social security... the only people i hear talking about that are retirees and politicians... tanda ko na...

*pagbabati: JC luis Jello (guess what my sister brought!!!!!!), ana (kahit hindi galing sa ibang bansa, may pasalubong parin, haha! thank you!!!), julie (salamat sa spartan swiss knife!), rey (GAME!), brian (tuloy ba yung plano?)

pagtataka BILANG TRAI CHA:R DAS NAU (dogri 349) *bout the new McDonald's commercial

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFOQORGU-Pw&feature=related

 *pagbabati: sorry, tinatamad...

pagtataka BILANG TE:N SYA:R DAX A:T' (bhili 348) *bout "hindi mo ba ako kilala?"

you know you're an egotistical bastard if you say "hindi mo ba ako kilala?!?!" to complete and total strangers...

of course, this statement of opinion is prompted by me hearing about what happened.. i'm talking about the incident on the golf course involving the son of the Department of Agrarian Reform (a little befitting that it happened on a golf course which is the complete anti-thesis of what agrarian reform stands for).. short version of the story, this guy, Pangandaman Jr., beats up a 56 year old man and his 14 year old son.. anyone who's read the version of the events written by the man's 18 year old daughter will definitely be disgusted by these people's arrogance... you'd think that these kind of people are exaggerations that can only be seen in movies.. it's like you can burn "PURE EVIL" into these people's foreheads.. but what really ticked me off was that the son shouted to them, "Hindi nila kami kilala! Sabihin mo nga sa kanila kung sino ako!"... i honestly hate that statement.. the belief that a person's name endows him with special magical powers of fear, omnipotence, and invulnerability... your name does not entitle you to anything... what's worse is that we all know, in this country, he wasn't referring to just his name.. he was referring to his position in as a Mayor... just like your name, this does not exempt you from anything.. these kind of people see power as a privilege, not a service... now we do know your name, and the only thing it entitles you to is a prison term

if you wana hear more about this just visit this link and check the dec 26 entry:

pagtataka BILANG TI:N CHA:R DAS SA:T (malvi 347) *bout bad advertising

i remember driving along EDSA one time and seeing this ad for Clear, the anti dandruff shampoo.. it had Nicole Scherzinger in it, and the text written are as follows:

*(some scientific evidence on how effective the product is)*
         I'm convinced
         My name is Nicole

they made her sound like an airhead.. i think a period might have helped... it got me thinking about all the other bad advertising that we have out there.. it's not uncommon.. some of them billboards, some on tv, others on radio.. here's a very very very short list i have made....

  1. Marie France billboards (featuring milfs with the tagline: "Don't cha wish...")
  2. Miss Ugly (unfortunately seen by those who use the SLEX until alabang or sucat)
  3. Unique Toothpaste (with Richard Gutierrez fighting ninjas)
  4. Speed (Piolo Pascual singing a rip off of "Beautiful Girl")
  5. Bench Body ads with half-naked men (note: only the ones with men)
  6. any ad with Kris Aquino as the endorser

a lot of these ads are really insulting to the audience's intelligence (especially those with Kris Aquino)

 routine

pagtataka BILANG TIN CAAR DAS CHO (banjari 346) *bout school rankings

i just received an email a few seconds ago about the world university rankings.. it's being sent by some person who i always see sending emails about all things lasalle vs ateneo.. and some other guy replied to it who also sends all things about lasalle vs ateneo.. this time it's about DLSU's bitterness over the fact that Ateneo was ranked in a study as the number one school in the country.. the sender blasted dlsu by saying that when lasalle was ranked higher than ateneo in the same study a few years back, lasalle kept bragging about it, and yet now, after the study concluded that ateneo is better than lasalle, they say that their university's ranking is the last thing in their minds and that it wasn't that important anyway... good God... i seem to remember that at the time when lasalle had a higher ranking, people in ateneo were saying exactly the same things that lasalle is saying now.. "that study is flawed".. "lasalle cheated anyway".. "they didn't consider liberal arts in the survey"... the survey that they disregarded a few years ago is now being trumpeted as legitimate proof of the university's superiority.. pls.. be consistent.. i'm not just referring to lasalle, or ateneo, or UST, or UP.. i mean EVERYONE BE CONSISTENT.. lasalle tops the study, they hail it as truth and ateneo says it's flawed.. ateneo tops the study, they brag about it in the guidon and lasalle says it doesn't really matter anyway... everybody sounds like a bunch of sore losers and bad winners... it's like they only accept the results of a study when it's favorable to them and pass it off as bullshit when they "lose"... either accept it or don't.. stop agreeing and disproving it on the basis of what serves your interests... personally, i don't give a damn about university rankings given how subjective they can be.. this flip flopping and blasting is just so fucking lame... leave the rivalry on the basketball court... ateneo would love to do that... when it comes to the top 10, these studies are pretty consistent, but when it comes to the BOTTOM 200 TO 500 these things are entirely different creatures... here's a thought, why not concentrate on the fact that our top universities ARE IN THE BOTTOM 200-500 IN THE WORLD?

first 2 weeks of 2nd sem

*pagbabati: JC (wsap?), jello (ganda ng bagong display pic ah, haha), luis (ano nangyari sayo?), ana (twisted), sandie (who????), cym (wasn't that a nice surpirse? haha), frankie (talaga toh oh.. may pag-asa naman eh!), josh (booo, baduy), royce (GAME!), rey (panget, walang sounds), biktor (sarap ng... suman mo), gino (... tyaka sisig mo)

pagtatak BILANG TI:N CHYA:R DAS PA:CH (rajasthani 345) *bout obama's win

everyone's heard of Obama's historic win.. the first black president of the United States.. and just a little over a hundred years ago, they considered these people slaves.. such is the magnitude of the event's historicity.. McCain will probably be forever the butt of jokes as the guy who lost to a black guy, and Bush has cemented himself in history as such a retard as president that America voted a black guy to the highest office.. whether this event is a testament to the greatness of Obama or Americans have actually surpassed their bigotry is something that is still open to debate... one thing is for sure: change has come.. as historical as this is for the US, it's hard for us to see how it will affect us, especially for a country as small and internationally insignificant as ours.. regardless, this has been an election with much international attention, not to mention the obvious bias of international media for Obama.. a lot of citizens all over the world who support Obama have actually never heard of McCain.. but what does this election mean for the world? why did so many people give so much of their attention to this election?.. two things.. first, it is historical.. the first black president of the United States.. the world looks at Americans as decrepit and immoral.. muslims see them as the great satan.. Europeans look at them with disdain, possibly even disgust.. but now it has made other countries, especially those in the West, reflect and wonder if they themselves are capable of what the Americans have done: transcending the racial card.. they voted for a man whose middle name is Hussein.. and this goes along with the second and most important reason why this election has captured the attention of the world: Hope.. the choice of Americans has given the world hope.. we scrutinized this election to see the character of Americans.. it is a referendum of the past 8 years.. after the era of Bush's cowboy, isolationist, and hegemonic approach, people all over the world wanted to see how Americans would vote.. would they vote McCain and effectively concretize the Bush doctrine? Or would they vote Obama to change and correct the sins of the past?.. the world wanted to see if Americans want to change.. in Obama's victory, the world sees an America ready to correct the mistakes of the past.. in Obama's victory, the world saw hope.. hope for the only superpower.. the world saw greatness and good in the fact that Americans were able to look past prejudice and truly see a man for what he is.. and that is how we see the result of this election.. that there is still good in America, and hope for the most powerful nation to change and truly become a force for good..

 Sembreak over

sembreak is done.. went by so fast.. classes start tomorrow, but technically it'll start about two days from now.. everyone knows the first two days are just intros and bullshit.. so, technically, there's still two more days of sembreak... that's me in denial

pagtataka BILANG TREN CAR DES CAR (gujarati 344) *bout plot killers

last week, i watched the movie The Strangers.. it's about these two people who are attacked by a deranged family(?) while they were staying over at a friend's house.. it's a new slasher movie, a genre which has been overused in the 90's, but appears to still get some traction in this new decade.. as always, what bugs most people who watch movies like this (people who decide to over think these movies instead of just laying back and enjoying them... me) is how stupid people can be in these slasher movies.. you should not have gone in there.. you should have just stayed in the room.. you should have checked the back seat.. bla bla bla.. to be fair, characters from The Strangers were pretty smart, so frustration at ineptitude was minimal.. but i just had to think... what if the dude in the movie was Jason Bourne?.. i mean, he's a secret assassin who's hiding from the government.. he could have fit right into the plot spending some sweet time with his girlfriend in some lone cottage in the woods.. and then the movie never happens.. i mean, the guy in the movie had a shotgun and that masked family only had knives and shovel.. Bourne took out a fellow knife-wielding assasin with a ballpen, and murdered his PK-7 armed moroccan counterpart with a face towel.. Bourne with a shotgun against three people with knives is not a movie.. yeah, i know that they never make guys in slasher movies really cool so there can be a story (or the deeper analysis would be to assume that making characters as normal as possible allows the audience to relate with the charater's experience, thus allowing the viewer to be fully immersed in the movie's horrifying experience... that sounds better)... but i dunno, sometimes mentally destroying a movie that falls within an already decrepit genre adds to one's own satisfaction, no matter how small the contribution is

 Sembreak = The Office

The new addiction: The Office.. i have been watching it non stop during the sembreak.. it's really difficult to watch cuz you need to have a pretty long attention span, but once you're hooked on it, it's really good.. ive also been travelling a lot thanks to the presence of the slovenian wonder, and i've kept myself busy with the stress of our thesis project.. i have my new schedule for next semester: no morning classes, most classes on thursday, just one class on mondays, all classes in the afternoon.. nice.. i believe this schedule will make me lazy..

*pagbabati: ana (magic number 2868, haha!), jc (nice moustache), luis(sory d na ko nakatext, ahehe), jello (plug: http://www.dmnyo.com/), rey and mitja (november 5), gaston (hoy), carla (boooooo), joseph (ano nangyari sayo?)

pagtataka BILANG TRE CA:R DAH TRE (siraiki 343) *bout resistance

it should never be about your pride.. it can't just be to serve a utilitarian purpose.. sometimes it's not really about whether or not you're right or wrong.. it can also be more than just the values that you stand for, although it will inevitably come down to this.. it can just be about the other.. about what kind of people they are.. about what they represent.. about what they stand for.. resistance is not always just about yourself.. it can be an external cause.. most of the time it's about holding back or fighting against something that can never be right.. knowing that everything must be done to show that what they do is something that is wrong..

         the Queen is their slave

 Sembreak
